The Department of Materials Engineering at the University of Technology held a scientific lecture entitled “Safety and Risk Management” as part of the activities and events of the Golden Jubilee Cultural Week. The lecture was delivered by Assistant Professor Dr. Laith Wadah Ismail on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. in the electronic hall, in the presence of the Head of the Department, Prof. Dr. Jawad Kazim Alawi, and a number of department faculty members.
The course included introducing participants to occupational safety and the necessity of implementing health and safety regulations in the workplace, as this is considered a fundamental right guaranteed and stipulated by all labor laws in various countries and emphasized by international labor standards. This focus is due to the fact that worker health and safety are essential elements that impact the production process and the national economy, which necessitates protecting workers from the dangers of work-related injuries, health damages, and occupational diseases to which they may be exposed during their work. Occupational safety and health refers to the precautions, preventive measures, and medical procedures aimed at protecting every professional from work-related accidents during or as a result of work. All workplaces must be safe, healthy, and free from any hazards that could harm the safety and health of workers.
The course addressed the components of occupational safety and health, occupational safety and health procedures in the workplace, dealing with workplace hazards, and the role and responsibilities of officials in ensuring a healthy and safe environment for employees.
The lecture concluded with the presentation of certificates of appreciation and a shield of excellence to the lecturer by the head of the department.
