
The College of Materials Engineering holds an awareness workshop on intellectual security.
The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Materials Engineering/University of Technology held an awareness workshop entitled “Concepts of Justice and Human Rights, Promoting the Values of Peace and Tolerance, and Resisting Extremism.” The workshop was held on Monday, April 21, 2025, in the electronic hall at 10:00 AM. The lecture was delivered by the Assistant Director of Physics, Saif Sabri Qasim, Head of the Training Unit, Center for Studies and Research, Community Police Directorate, Ministry of Interior. The workshop was attended by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Jawad Kazim Olaiwi, his Scientific Assistant, Prof. Dr. Kazim Matar Shabib, and a number of Ministry of Interior employees, faculty members, and other faculty members. The lecture included a definition of extremism, its most prominent causes and negative effects, and ways to achieve intellectual security to combat it. The lecture also highlighted the sources that fuel these ideas, methods of prevention, and the roles played by governmental and non-governmental institutions. The lecture focused on the role of educational institutions in this area by formulating an educational discourse aimed at building and developing intellectual security and promoting the values of citizenship and national and cultural identity. This is intended to contribute to sustainable peace, promote moderation, acceptance of others, and reject fanaticism and extremism in all their forms. It also provided students with the opportunity to participate in rational dialogue and correct intellectual distortions through argument and persuasion. The seminar concluded with the Dean of the College awarding the lecturer a certificate of appreciation.
